...all over again

I mentioned on the previous page that some cards I have as re-issues of the original card but with no follow up card ( like cards 0100-10233 and 0100-10251), but there are also cards for which I have a new view only, but they still echo (and have the last three digits in thier card number) as an older view. Perhaps some of these cards were originally issued as thier old views, and I have not found them yet.

...The Return of the white Border Era

Among post card collectors it is generally agreed that the "white Border" era of postcards was from about 1916 to 1930. In central Florida though it apparently tried to come back in the early 1980's. At least three WDW post cards were printed with white borders at this time the images on the ones I know of were in earlier postcard series, only, without the white border. In addition to the two cards I have pictured below card 0100-10358 IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL was also printed in a white border edition, I don't have one of it yet though, additionally there may be others I don't yet know of.

(the cards are) HITS (but some of the) RUNS (are) ERRORS

For some reason the card in the 0100-10000 's seemed to be more prone to misprints than cards in earlier (or later) series, not only were some cards printed with a white border (mentioned in the section above this box), but also, some of the cards in this series have card numbers in the back that are not right. These cards also appear with the correct numbers, which helps to confirm the error is just that, an actual error, rather than a variation for some other reason. Misprints occured on WDW postcards before this series too though. For instance, take a look at this cards adress / message side from the first series of WDW photo chromes.

The front of this Swiss Family Island Treehouse postcard is aligned correctly, but as you can see the back is not. Still for some reason there seems to be a greater number of errors in the 0100-10000 series. Perhaps having one more digit makes it just enough harder to keep the number in your head while you are typing or proofreading the numbers to the point where these things crept in more often. Also the fact that these cards also appear in thier corrected versions makes it easier to be certain that these are errors after all I suspect that the night view of the Contemporary Resort Hotel that appeared in the first series of photo chromes as card 0111-0251 was printed with a dash in error, but, since later cards were published following that numerical sequence ( 0111-0253 thru 0111-0257, though none of those had FL flags) and that card was never printed without a dash it is hard to prove. Here is a list of the numbers printed in error that I am aware of, perhaps some of you have more of these misprinted number cards if so please drop me a line. I'd love to add them to my list, and would be quite happy to give you the credit for adding them to the list.
  • 100-10358 IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL (1 zero dropped from card #)
  • 0100-0362 MAGIC KINGDOM MANY WORLDS IN ONE (one digit droped in card number)
  • 100-0369 OUTER SPACE RIGHT HERE IN FLORIDA

Doing things by the numbers

I suspect it was probably towards the end of the standard size card era when this other wrinkle devoloped in the card numbering. they started a series of cards where each land had a different "hundreds" suffix. For example the Main Street cards end in 11000, Fantasyland 11100, the Adventureland card ends in 11300, Frontierland 10400. I suspect it was near the end of this era because I only have a few of these cards (most of these only have one example for each "hundred") as if the full series never got printed. Also I suspect it was near the end of the time for this series because the first Continental size cards for the Magic Kindom and non-Epcot center areas of the resort also followed this pattern. Those few cards I have that fit that pattern, and are new images to this series, are below.

0100-11400 THE "WILDEST RIDE IN THE WILDERNESS"

In addition to the cards shown here some cards from the 0111-0000 series fell into this patern and were reprinted as 0100-10000 series cards. 0100-11100 was a re-print of 0111-1100 CINDERELLA CASTLE, cards of the 100-11600's reprint cards from the 0111-1600's. In addition this number series continued with numbers into the 12000's covering the resrts and other locations beyond the Magic Kingdom such as the Walt Disney World Village, and River Country.

0100-12100 BOATING ON BAY LAKE

0100-12102 THE POLYNESIAN VILLAGE

0100-12200 PUTTING ALONG AT THE GOLF RESORT

I suspect that the River Country cards in this series were all reprints from the 0111-2400's but since I only had two of those I'll show the ones I don't yet have in that series here.
