Walt Disney World
A History in Postcards
Chapter 10 The Animation Gallery Page 1 Scenes and
Backgrounds
In the five years between when Michael Eisners team came into
power at Disney, and the opening of the studios was a time of
re-vitalization not only for the Walt Disney World resort, but,
for the Animation division as well. Not so much in the three
releases of that period, some of which had been in production
before the new team took over, but more so in the hiring of new
animators and planning of new movies that were "in the pipeline"
by the time the studios opened in 1989. Between 1970 and 1984
only five new animated features had been released and one of
those (the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh) was actually a
compilation of featurettes that had previously been released,
whereas from 1988 to 1992 the studios managed to release a new
feature every year (including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the
Beast, and Aladdin). As mentioned in the previous chapter part of
the new hiring in Animation was planned into the new studios with
an animation group in Florida, and an animation tour in the new
theme park. At the end of the animation tour was a new shop the
Animation Gallery, this shop features a selection of Disney
cells, posters, Art Books and other items which includes, you
guessed it, postcards! This new line of postcards was just part
of an increase in postcards in the 1990's that reflected the
growth of the resort.
